OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women's soccer team celebrated Senior Day with a 2-1 victory over Trine (Ind.) University at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
The Comets dented the scoreboard for the first time in the 13th minute when freshman Isabelle Leon scored. Senior Olivia Gardner and freshman Emily Reinecke were each given an assist on the goal. The score stayed 1-0 at halftime.
Olivet added to its lead only three minutes and 37 seconds into the second half. Senior Brooke Leach sent a pass to Leon. She then passed the ball to junior Lauren Vanderhoff, who sent a shot into the goal. The Thunder scored their goal with 15:30 left in the game.
At the end of the game, the stat sheet was nearly equal. The Comets finished with a 16-14 edge in total shots, including an 11-8 edge in shots-on-goal. Gardner led the way with three shots, while Leon, Reinecke, Vanderhoff and senior Nicole Borek each had two. Junior Deanna Zolnoski made seven saves, while playing all 90 minutes in net.
Olivet will play its final three games of the 2014 season on the road, beginning next Tuesday, Oct. 28, with a 4 p.m. game at Saint Mary's (Ind.) College.
