OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women's soccer team was shutout by Alma College, 3-0, today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
The Comets started the game on an offensive attack, with freshman Rachael Durocher recording two shots in the first three minutes in the game. The Scots got on the board a short time later in the sixth minute. Agatha Weddle sent a crossing pass from the right side of the goal to the near post, where Kelly Wilson tapped the ball into the net.
Olivet kept its offensive pressure up, as it had seven more shots to none for Alma. In the 32nd minute, a Scot player was fouled from around 20 yards out. Allysen Neumann served the ball into the box on a free kick, which found the back of the goal at the far post.
In the first half, the Comets had 10 total shots and had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. Alma turned up the defensive pressure in the second half, causing Olivet to only take three shots. The Scots scored their second-half goal in the 62nd minute on a penalty kick. The Comets best scoring opportunity came late in the game when freshman Dominque Giroux's shot was saved by the keeper.
For the game, Alma had a slight 15-13 advantage in total shots, with the same +2 edge in shots-on-goal, 9-7. Junior Lauren Vanderhoff was credited with four shots, while junior Jeanette Fisher had three. Junior Deanna Zolnoski played all 90 minutes in goal and collected six saves.
Olivet stays home to face Trine (Ind.) University Saturday at noon.
