OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women's soccer team lost 5-0 to defending Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) champion Calvin College today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
The Knights scored a goal off a corner kick in the fifth minute and that was the only goal in the first half. The Comets started the second half with an offensive attack, recording three shots in the first five minutes and 17 seconds. The best chance to score was when freshman Isabelle Leon carried the ball down the near sideline and her shot sailed just wide of the near post.
Calvin went up 2-0 on a penalty kick goal in the 10th minute of the second half. The Knights put the game away when they scored three goals in the final nine minutes and 46 seconds of the contest. All three goals were scored by Paige Capel.
Olivet finished the game with seven shots, one each by seven different players. Senior Nicole Borek and freshman Dominique Giroux and Emily Reinecke placed one shot apiece on goal. In net, junior Deanna Zolnoski made a season-high 14 saves.
The Comets wraps-up the first half of their MIAA schedule Saturday when they host Albion College at noon.
