Women’s soccer: Reinecke leads Olivet to 2-1 win over Saint Mary’s

OLIVET, Mich. – Freshman Emily Reinecke scored two goals to lead the Olivet College women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Saint Mary's (Ind.) College today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
The Comets jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute. Freshman Isabelle Leon sent a crossing pass into the box. Sophomore Megan Peplinski headed the ball down to Reinecke, who finished her shot into the upper corner of the goal. The Belles answered in the ninth minute when Maggie McLaughlin scored off a set piece. Both teams finished the first half with five shots.
Olivet had a couple good scoring opportunities early in the second half, but each time its shot was saved by the keeper. Leon had her shot deflected by the keeper off the end line. Before the corner kick was taken, Reinecke entered the game. Senior Nicole Borek served the ball into the box, where Reinecke headed the ball into the net at the near post.
For the game, the Comets had 13 shots, placing eight on frame. Reinecke led the way with four shots, followed by Borek and junior Lauren Vanderhoff with two apiece. Junior Deanna Zolnoski earned the win in goal, making five saves while facing nine shots.
Olivet hosts Calvin College next Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 4 p.m.
