Women’s soccer: Comets battle back to tie Heidelberg, 3-3

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Olivet College women's soccer team rallied from a 3-1 halftime deficit to tie Heidelberg (Ohio) University, 3-3, tonight at the Hidden Valley Soccer Complex in Tiffin, Ohio. No overtime was played in the contest due to bad thunderstorm, which rolled through the area once regulation ended.
Christine Neal put the Student Princes up 2-0 with two early goals in the first 14 minutes and 21 seconds of the game. Freshman Isabelle Leon cut the Comets' deficit in half with a breakaway goal in the 31st minute. Heidelberg regained a two-goal lead, 3-1, with a penalty kick goal in the 33rd minute.
Olivet scored its second goal only 40 seconds into the second when Leon found the back of the net after receiving a pass from freshman Rachael Durocher. The Comets scored the equalizer in the 63rd minute. Durocher's shot was saved by the keeper but not controlled, and senior Brooke Leach buried the rebound into an empty net. Leon was also credited with an assist on the goal.
For the game, the Comets took 16 shots, placing nine on-goal. Leon led the way with seven shots, with four on-frame. Freshman Emily Reinecke had three shots. Sophomore Kori Ramirez faced 12 shots and made saves, while playing all 90 minutes in goal.
Olivet (2-0-1) opens Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play Monday afternoon when it hosts Adrian College at 4 p.m.
NOTES: After three games, Leon leads the team with 11 points (five goals and one assist). Reinecke is second with eight points (three goals and two assists).
