Wrestling: Olivet loses to Adrian, 29-16, on Senior Night

OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet wrestling team fell to Adrian College, 29-16, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) match on Senior Night inside the Cutler Event Center.

- Records: Olivet 9-9 overall, 2-2 MIAA; Adrian 4-0 overall, 3-0 MIAA
- The Bulldogs won six of the 10 bouts, with bonus points in five of the victories.
- The Comets earned wins in four bouts, and tallied bonus points in two.
- Adrian led 12-0 behind back-to-back first-period pins in the 125- and 133-pound bouts.
- At 141 pounds, senior Dylan Phelps scored the first three Olivet points with an 11-8 decision victory. His 11 points were three takedowns – one in the first period and two in the second period – and a reversal to open the third period.
- At 149 pounds, junior Tyler Herrema closed the gap in the team to 12-7 with an 18-6 major decision. His points consisted of five takedowns, two escapes and the riding time point.
- After the Bulldogs won 10-6 at 157 pounds, junior Ramiro Guerrero recorded a 10-7 win at 165 pounds. A takedown in the third period was the difference in the match.
- Adrian won the next three bouts via a major decision at 174 pounds, 23-7 technical fall at 184 pounds and 25-10 technical fall at 197 pounds.
- At 285 pounds, senior Donovan King capped the night with a quick 21-second pin.
- Olivet is back in action Saturday, February 17, when it competes at the 2024 Mid-States Invitational. Trine (Ind.) University is the host school and action starts at 10 a.m.
