Wrestling: Herrema and King advance to semifinals at Pete Willson Invitational

WHEATON, Ill. – Led by Tyler Herrema and Donovan King, The University of Olivet wrestling team sits in 11th-place after the first day of the Wheaton (Ill.) College / Pete Willson Invitational at King Arena.
- After day one, University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire are tied for first with 88 points apiece.
- The Comets have recorded 50 points, with four wrestlers still alive in the tournament. Olivet is 1/2 point behind 10th-place University of Chicago (Ill.) and one point behind North Central (Ill.) College and University of the Ozarks (Ark.), who share eighth-place.
- At 149 pounds, Herrema posted a 3-0 record to advance to the semifinals. His three wins were two technical falls and a major decision. Herrema will face No. 1 seed Zach Soto from University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire tomorrow morning in the semifinals.
- At 285 pounds, King was dominant with three pins. The first two came in the first period and the third came with three seconds left in the match. King will wrestle Josh Woodrey from Augustana (Ill.) College in the semfinals.
- At 141 pounds, senior Dylan Phelps has a 3-1 record and is still alive in the consolation bracket. His wins were a major decision, technical fall, and minor decision.
- At 174 pounds, senior Mitchell Reynolds also has a 3-1 record and remains in the consolation bracket. After losing his first match, he bounced back to win three straight (11-2, 3-2 and 10-5).
- 133: Emilio Cabrera – 1-2 record – lost 18-3 TF to Jude Robson (Roanoke, Va.), won 10-9 over Jacob Gregg (Case Western Reserve, Ohio), lost 14-3MD to Asa Brunk (Messiah, Pa.).
- 141: Dylan Phelps – 3-1 record – won 9-1 MD over Gabriel Bellefeuille (Concordia-Moorhead, Minn.), won 19-3 TF over Cooper Peterson (Wisconsin-Stevens Point), lost 17-0 TF to Josiah Gehr (Messiah, Pa.), won 10-4 over Bo Niewiadomski (Wis.-Eau Claire).
- 149: Tyler Herrema – 3-0 record – won 18-1 TF over Noah Orser (Cortland State, N.Y.), won 17-1 TF over Claude Buckmaster (Heidelberg, Ohio), won 15-1 MD over Jalin Conner (Wisconsin-Whitewater).
- 157: Ramiro Guerrero – 2-2 record – won 13-5 MD over Anthony Grecol (Heidelberg, Ohio), won 14-7 over David Cushman (Wisconsin-Platteville), lost 8-2 SV-1 to Nathan Callaway (Millikin, Ill.), lost 19-2 TF to Nick Nettleton (Mount Union, Ohio).
- 165: Kyan Larson – 2-2 record – won 8-6 over Hunter Hughes (Cortland State, N.Y.), lost 2-0 to Teagan Hendricks (Ohio Northern), won 13-4 MD over Scotty Scheidecker (Cornell, Iowa), lost 6-3 to Chance Cole (Millikin, Ill.).
