Wrestling: Olivet loses twice at 2024 NWCA National Dual Meet Championships

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The University of Olivet wrestling team lost two matches at the 2024 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Multi-Division National Dual Meet Championships, held at the UNI Dome. The Comets started the day with a 26-18 loss to Cornell (Iowa) College and ended the day with a 34-10 setback to Concordia University-Moorhead (Minn.).
- The Rams won six-of-10 bouts, scoring bonus points in four.
- Cornell started the match with a 6-2 decision and 13-4 major decision at 125 and 133 pounds, respectively. Olivet seized an 18-7 lead with four straight wins. The Rams won the final four bouts, including two back-to-back pins at 184 and 197 pounds.
- At 141 pounds, senior Dylan Phelps posted a 15-5 major decision.
- Sophomore 149-pounder Tyler Herrema pinned his opponent 51 seconds into the third period.
- At 157 pounds, junior Ramiro Guerrero racked-up the points to win an 18-0 technical fall.
- Freshman Kyan Larson edged his opponent, 10-7, in the 165-pound bout.
- The Cobbers earned wins in seven-of-10 bouts, scoring bonus points in all seven.
- Junior Robert Davids used an escape to start the second period and riding time point at the end of the match to eke out a 2-0 win at 141 pounds.
- Sophomore Darren McLeod jumped out to a 7-0 lead after one period to record an 8-2 decision at 149 pounds.
- Competing for the first time this season, senior Donovan King claimed an easy 11-1 win at 285 pounds.
- The Comets wrestle Rochester Institute of Technology (N.Y.) tomorrow on the second day of the national duals. Action gets started at 9 a.m. CT. The winner will face the winner of the Marymount (Va.) University versus Alfred State (N.Y.) College match, while the losers will face the losers of the Marymount versus Alfred State match.
