Eckman tabbed MIAA Wrestler of the Week
HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – Junior Boe Eckman from The University of Olivet has been selected the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Wrestler of the Week.
Wrestling at 285 pounds, Eckman had a 3-0 record in helping the Comets to a pair of wins at the Comet Duals. He started the day with a 16-0 technical fall win over Jadon Brownlee from Ohio Northern University, who is ranked No. 5 in the NWCA regional poll. Eckman then capped Olivet's wins over University of Mount Union (Ohio) University and Heidelberg (Ohio) University, where the winning team was not decided until the end of his bout. He claimed an 18-6 major decision over Nicholas Hickman to lift the Comets past Mount Union, 24-19, then defeated Demitrius Hernandez, 8-1, for Olivet's thrilling 23-21 come-from-behind win over Heidelberg.
"Boe has matured a lot on and off the mat since last year," said Olivet head coach Brandon Brissette. "He has done a great job at stepping into the role as our starting heavyweight. His wins last Saturday against Mount Union and Heidelberg wrestlers showed the coaching staff how much better he is this season."
The Comets are off until Saturday, December 2, when they participate in the Ohio Northern Polar Bear Invitational.
