Wrestling: Olivet opens season with two lopsided wins at MCC Stenberg Duals

MUSKEGON, Mich. – The University of Olivet wrestling team started the 2023-24 season with a pair of dominating wins tonight at the Muskegon Community College (MCC) Stenberg Duals. The Comets shutout Niagara (N.Y.) County Community College, 58-0, before beating the host Jayhawks 40-16.

- Olivet scored bonus points in all 10 matches – three forfeits, five pins and two technical falls.
- The forfeit victories were picked-up by freshman Sam Schreiber at 125 pounds, freshman Carter Bradburn at 157 pounds and junior Boe Eckman at 285 pounds.
- All five pins were in the first period – 2:52 by junior Stuart Donlan at 133 pounds, 1:36 by senior Dylan Phelps at 141 pounds, 2:03 by junior Jay Shaull at 165 pounds, 0:43 by freshman Juwan Vines at 174 pounds and 0:53 by freshman Branson Goodman at 197 pounds.
- The technical falls were 17-1 by junior Tyler Herrema at 149 pounds and 18-2 by senior Mitchell Reynolds at 184 pounds.
- Olivet won seven of 10 matches against the Jayhawks. Four of the wins were pins, one was a forfeit and two were technical falls.
- Phelps won by forfeit at 141 pounds.
- The pins were 1:22 by senior Spencer Murphy at 149 pounds, 4:42 by Reynolds at 174 pounds, 6:10 by junior Kody Krupp at 184 pounds and 0:15 by Goodman at 197 pounds.
- The technical falls were 17-2 by Donlan at 133 pounds and 21-2 by Vines at 165 pounds.
- The Comets stay in Muskegon tonight to compete in the MCC McMullen Open. Action gets underway at 9:30 a.m.
