Olivet College’s Guilford selected to CSC Academic All-District Men’s At-Large Team
OLIVET, Mich. – Recent Olivet College graduate Owen Guilford has been chosen to the 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Men’s At-Large Team. He is now eligible to earn CSC Academic All-America® honors, where first-, second- and third-teams will be announced on June 21.
OLIVET, Mich. – Recent Olivet College graduate Owen Guilford has been chosen to the 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team. He is now eligible to earn CSC Academic All-America® honors, where first-, second- and third-teams will be announced on June 21.
To be named to the Academic All-District team, the student-athlete must be have a 3.50 or higher cumulative grade point average and be a starter or top reserve on her team. The men's at-large team consists of student-athletes from the following sports – fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
An insurance & risk management major, Guilford wrestled at 174 pounds for the Comets. He earned 2022-23 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) honors, finishing the year with a 16-7 record. Thirteen of Guilford's wins were bonus point victories, including seven pins and three technical falls.
Guilford ended his Olivet career as a three-time All-MIAA selection and was named the 2021-22 MIAA Most Valuable Wrestler. He was a two-time NCAA Regional placer and finished his four years with a 66-28 overall record.
Off the wrestling mat, Guilford was a member of the Gamma Iota Sigma. He also served as a mentor for the boys and girls club in southeast Detroit.
