FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College sophomore Trevor Piggott has been tabbed the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Wrestler of the Week. He is earning the honor for the second times this season.
Piggott posted a 5-0 record for the Comets last week. His first win was a 10-2 decision in Olivet's 35-9 win over Trine (Ind.) University. Seeded No. 6 in the 285-pound bracket, Piggott had a 4-0 record to capture the title at the Cliff Keen-Mike Duroe Invitational, hosted by Cornell (Iowa) College. Three of his four wins were decisions, including two in overtime against nationally-ranked wrestlers.
"Trevor continues to grow and his consistency in big tournaments is great," said Olivet head coach Brandon Brissette. "He has now made the finals now in three tournaments and can finish them out by winning two of them. Trevor also showed his ability to win the matches which go the distance, going into overtime multiple times at a tournament. That will certainly help him in the future, as he looks to qualify for the national championships."
Olivet continues MIAA action Thursday when it makes the trip to wrestle Alma College. Action inside the Art Smith Arena gets started at 7 p.m.
