FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College senior Tyler Grimsley has been tabbed the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Wrestler of the Week.
Grimsley posted a 4-0 record at 165 pounds in leading the wrestling to the same record at the Comet Duals Nov. 17. Three of his wins were technical falls – 21-6 over Chase Haehnle from Mount St. Joseph (Ohio), and 21-5 over both Stephen Kitko from Manchester (Ind.) University and Gavin Smith from Millikin (Ill.) University. Grimsley scored a takedown in the final second of the match to nip Ben Hewson from Cornell (Iowa) College, 3-1, for his fourth win. Hewson entered the match ranked No. 4 in both National Wrestling Coaches Association and d3wrestle.com rankings.
"Tyler put a lot of work into fixing some small details in his scoring opportunities from his first competition last weekend," said Olivet head coach Brandon Brissette. "He was ready for these matchups and it showed, especially in his match against Cornell's returning All-American. Tyler's goal is to beat these top-level opponents in March and he will continue to put the work into improving from now until then!"
The Comets are idle until Saturday, Dec. 8, when they compete at the North Central (Ill.) College Invitational.
