Wrestling team tied for seventh-place after opening day of NCAA DIII Central Regional
The Olivet College wrestling team is tied for seventh-place after day one of the 2018 NCAA Division III Central Regional, hosted by Wabash College and at the Knowling Fieldhouse in Crawfordsville, Indiana.

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The Olivet College wrestling team is tied for seventh-place after day one of the 2018 NCAA Division III Central Regional, hosted by Wabash College and at the Knowling Fieldhouse in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets have advanced three wrestlers to the second day of competition.
- Baldwin Wallace (Ohio) University and University of Mount Union (Ohio) share the top spot in the team standings with 76 points. The host Little Giants are third with 73.5 points. Waynesburg (Pa.) University is a distant fourth with 46.5 points.
- At 165 pounds, junior Tyler Grimsley is the lone Olivet wrestler who will wrestle in the semifinals. He posted a 23-5 technical fall over Joseph Vandroasek from Alma College in the first round and then slipped past Seth Meyer from Ohio Northern University in the quarterfinals. He will face Jared Timberman from Wabash in the semifinals.
- At 157 pounds, senior John Leark and at 174 pounds, sophomore Haydn Kinjorski lost one match and are alive in the consolation bracket. Leark won his first two matches, 10-4 and 19-2, before suffering a close 4-2 loss in the quarterfinals. He bounced back to pin his opponent in his first consolation bracket match. Kinjorski won a 12-4 major decision in his first match before losing in overtime. He rebounded to win 4-2 in his first consolation bout.
- Six of the seven remaining Olivet wrestlers won at least one match before bowing out of the tourmament.
