WHEATON, Ill. – The Olivet College wrestling team is in ninth-place after day one of the 2018 Wheaton (Ill.) College Pete Willson Invitational at the King Arena in Wheaton, Illinois.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Thirty-five NCAA Division III schools make up the tournament field.
- University of Wis.-Whitewater sits in first-place with 89.5 points. Messiah (Pa.) College is a close second with 85 points, and Baldwin Wallace (Ohio) University is a half point behind in third with 84.5.
- The Comets have 43.5 points. Three wrestlers are still alive in the brackets and will wrestle tomorrow.
- The No. 2 seed at 165 pounds, junior Tyler Grimsley posted a 3-0 record and faces No. 3 seed Jeff Hojnacki from Messiah in the semifinals. Grimsley pinned his first-round opponent before winning two decisions, 5-1 and 3-2.
- The No. 5 seed at 174 pounds, sophomore Haydn Kinjorski also had a 3-0 record and wrestles top seed Ben Swarr from Messiah in the semifinals. Two of Konjorski's wins were by decision, 10-7 and 6-4, and one was a major decision, 14-4.
- Unseeded in the 285-pound bracket, freshman Jalen McFerrin-Pace lost his first match 4-3 on the second tiebreaker. He then bounced back to win four straight matches, including two overtime victories. McFerrin-Pace faces No. 4 seed Myron Hamilton from Millikin (Ill.) University in the consolation bracket semifinals.
