Olivet College’s Judge bows out of NCAA DIII Wrestling Championships
With two losses, Olivet College junior Jesse Judge was eliminated from the 2016 NCAA Division III National Wrestling Championships at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – With two losses, Olivet College junior Jesse Judge was eliminated from the 2016 NCAA Division III National Wrestling Championships at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.
Competing in the 285-pound bracket, Judge fell to Zachery Roseberry from Delaware Valley (Pa.) College, 11-3, in the first round. Roseberry scored the first two points on a takedown around the midpoint of the first period. Judge was able to get out six seconds later to make the score 2-1 after one period.
After Judge deferred, Roseberry chose to go down to start the second period. Only five seconds into the period, Roseberry was able to score a reversal and then score a two-point nearfall halfway through the period. Judge escaped to make the score 6-2. Roseberry scored a takedown late in the period to take an 8-2 lead.
Going down to begin the third period, Judge got out for the escape point. Roseberry answered with a takedown and then secured the riding time point for the final 11-3 score.
Dropping down to the consolation bracket, Judge faced Will Porter from John Carroll (Ohio) University. With 1:07 left in the opening period, Porter got a takedown and then turned Judge for the pin.
Judge, making his first-ever trip to the national championships, finishes the season with a 28-11 record.
