Wrestling team finishes in ninth-place at Pete Willson Invitational
Led by junior Jesse Judge’s third-place finish in the 285-pound bracket, the Olivet College wrestling team finished in ninth-place at the 2016 Pete Willson Invitational, hosted by Wheaton College and at the King Arena in Wheaton, Illinois.
WHEATON, Ill. – Led by junior Jesse Judge's third-place finish in the 285-pound bracket, the Olivet College wrestling team finished in ninth-place at the 2016 Pete Willson Invitational, hosted by Wheaton College and at the King Arena in Wheaton, Illinois.
The Comets totaled 56.5 points over the two days of the tournament. University of Wis.-Whitewater captured the team title with 131 points, followed by Wis.-Parkside in second, 127.5; and Messiah (Pa.) College in third, 123.
Judge began his day with a close 5-3 loss to No. 2 seed Austin Bellile from Milwaukee School of Engineering in the semifinals. He bounced back to pin Jack Seaman from Augustana, and then pinned No. 5 seed Matt Halverson from Wis-Parkside in the third-place match.
At 197 pounds, senior Thomas Hall finished in fifth-place. This morning, he defeated Bo Siebel from Wis.-Stevens Point, 11-6, in the consolation bracket and then fell to Zach Tooley from Wis.-La Crosse, 7-0. Hall received a medical forfeit victory in the fifth-place match.
Wrestling as the No. 7 seed at 125 pounds, junior Michael Schmidt lost a close 3-2 decision to No. 3 seed and eventual champion Ryan Weinmann from Wis.-La Crosse in the semifinals. He lost 3-0 to No. 2 seed Ben Vosters from Wis.-Stevens Point in the consolation bracket and then forfeited his fifth-place match.
The Comets host Adrian College next Thursday, Feb. 4, for their final dual match of the 2015-16 season. Action at The Cutler Event Center gets under way at 7 p.m.
