Wrestling team finishes in sixth-place at Trine Invitational
The Olivet College wrestling team placed sixth of nine schools at the 2015 Trine (Ind.) University Invitational at Hershey Hall in Angola, Indiana.
ANGOLA, Ind. – The Olivet College wrestling team placed sixth of nine schools at the 2015 Trine (Ind.) University Invitational at Hershey Hall in Angola, Indiana.
The Comets had three wrestlers finish in the top four and scored 36 total points. Alma College won the team championship with 165.5 points.
Senior Evan Hoshaw was Olivet's top placer, as he was second in the 133-pound bracket. Hoshaw won his first match by technical fall, 16-1, and then pinned his second-round opponent in one minute and 53 seconds. He then scored an escape and takedown in the final 42 seconds of the third period to win his semifinal match, 4-3, before losing the championship match, 20-2.
Junior Austin Kelley placed third at 149 pounds. He won by fall in the first round and then a 7-0 decision in the quarterfinals. Kelley dropped a 9-8 decision in the semifinals. He bounced back to win twice, 4-0 and 7-4, in the consolation bracket to take third-place.
Senior Garrett Hyatt finished fourth at 285 pounds. He posted a first-period fall in the first round before losing a 5-2 decision in the quarterfinals. Hyatt then won three straight matches, 2-0, 6-2 and pin in 1:36, to advance to the third-place match, where he was pinned with two seconds left in the opening period.
The Comets have a select number of wrestlers competing tomorrow at the Michigan State Open.
