Wrestling: Olivet competes at Alma Open
The Olivet College wrestling team participated in the 2015 Alma College Open today at Art Smith Arena in Alma.
ALMA, Mich. – The Olivet College wrestling team participated in the 2015 Alma College Open today at Art Smith Arena in Alma.
With the varsity lineup taking the weekend off, the best performance for the Comets was turned in by junior Anthony Long who placed fourth in the 157-pound bracket. He won his first match, 5-3, before losing 9-2 in the quarterfinals to the top seed. Long came back with three straight wins, 3-1, 4-3 and 1-0, in the consolation bracket. In the third-place match, he lost a closer match, 3-2, to the No. 1 seed Tobias Barnes from Muskegon Community College. Tobias scored an escape to start the third period to earn the win.
The Comets are off until next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 30-31, when they compete at the Pete Willson Invitational, hosted by Wheaton (Ill.) College. Action starts Friday at 11 a.m. CT, and resumes Saturday at 9 a.m. CT.
