Wrestling: Olivet lands in national rankings for first time in 2014-15
The Olivet College wrestling team has climbed into the National Wrestling Coaches Association Top 30 poll for the first time in 2014-15. After being unranked for the first two polls of the season, the Comets make their debut at No. 21.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College wrestling team has climbed into the National Wrestling Coaches Association Top 30 poll for the first time in 2014-15. After being unranked for the first two polls of the season, the Comets make their debut at No. 21.
The ranking came after Olivet placed first Dec. 6 at the 2014 Ohio Northern University Polar Bear Invitational. Individually, senior Nick Allen is ranked No. 4 at 174 pounds. He currently boasts a 10-4 record, with two losses to No. 2 Conner LeFever from Wabash (Ind.) College and the other two against NCAA Division I opponents.
The Comets will travel to Las Vegas to compete in the 2014 Desert Duals Sunday, Dec. 21 at the Flamingo Resort. While there, Olivet will wrestle No. 4 Coe College, No. 7 and defending NCAA DIII National Champion Wartburg (Iowa) College, and unranked Buena Vista (Iowa) University. Action starts at 8 a.m. PST.
In addition, the first d3wrestle.com Team Tournament rankings of 2014-15 show Olivet in a tie for 30th-place. Allen is also fourth in the d3wrestle.com individual rankings. Four wrestlers – sophomore Dominick Trevino at 141 pounds, senior Kyle Witgen at 149 pounds, sophomore Rodney Harvey at 184 pounds and junior Thomas Hall at 197 pounds – are each listed as honorable mention at their respective weight class.
