Wrestling team finishes in first-place at Waynesburg Invitational
Led by four first-place finishes, the seventh-ranked Olivet College wrestling team was crowned the team champion at the Third Annual Waynesburg University Invitational today inside the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse in Waynesburg, Pa.
WAYNESBURG, Pa. – Led by four first-place finishes, the seventh-ranked Olivet College wrestling team was crowned the team champion at the Third Annual Waynesburg University Invitational today inside the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse in Waynesburg, Pa.
The Comets totaled 198.5 points to beat second-place West Liberty (W.Va.) University, an NCAA Division II institution, by 67.5 points. Johns Hopkins (Md.) University was third with 119, followed closely by College of Mount St. Joseph (Ohio), 114; and the host Yellow Jackets, 103.
Winning titles were senior 141-pounder Kenny Richmond (Brighton), sophomore 174-pounder Nick Allen (Scotville/Mason County Central), sophomore 184-pounder Andy Ottenwess (Grand Rapids/Allendale) and senior 197-pounder Logan Renas (Big Rapids).
Sophomore 157-pounder Kyle Witgen (Romeo) finished in second-place, while junior 149-pounder Gage Pederson (Hastings) and senior 285-pounder Jake Ceslick (Alpena) placed third. Sophomore 133-pounder Michael Gancer (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) was fourth, while sophomore 125-pounder Esteban Gonzales (Holly) finished in sixth-place.
For Olivet's second-team, sophomore 184-pounder Jeff Holm (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) and senior 197-pounder Andrew Simpson (Tecumseh) were second. Sophomore 141-pounder Justin Holm (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) placed fourth. Junior 157-pounder Matt Wilming (Chesterfield Twp./Anchor Bay) was sixth.

The Comets will return to the mats next Saturday, Jan. 12 at the 2013 NWCA/Cliff Keen Multi-Divisional National Duals at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield, Illinois. Pairings and match times will be announced early next week.
