Women’s lacrosse team topped by Hope, 23-2
The Olivet College women’s lacrosse team was topped by Hope College, 23-2 this afternoon at VanAndel Stadium in Holland.
HOLLAND, Mich. – The Olivet College women's lacrosse team was topped by Hope College, 23-2 this afternoon at VanAndel Stadium in Holland.
The Flying Dutch scored two goals in the first 56 seconds of the game. The Comets got on the scoreboard for the first time with 28:08 left in the first half when sophomore Krystin Verran netted a free-position goal. Hope scored four straight goals to go up 6-1.
Olivet freshman Kara Dishaw scored her first collegiate goal at the 13:58 mark. Senior Jessica Doster was credited with an assist on the goal. The Flying Dutch added eight more goals in the first half to take a 14-2 lead at halftime. Hope held the Comets scoreless in the second half, while scoring nine goals for the final 23-2 score.
For the game, Olivet recorded eight shots, including three for senior Cecilia Bayne. Five others each had one. Doster recorded a team-leading five ground balls. In the cage, junior Xavier Vance broke the single-game school record with 26 saves.
The Comets return home to face Trine (Ind.) University next Tuesday, April 26 at 7 p.m. Prior to the women's game, the Olivet men are also playing Trine, with a 5 p.m. start time. In addition, the women's contest is a charity game for the Flint water crisis. All proceeds from the game are going towards the Community Foundation of Greater Flint.
