Women’s lacrosse team loses 14-2 to Ohio Northern in home-opener
The Olivet College women’s lacrosse team had its home-opener spoiled with a 14-2 loss to Ohio Northern University today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women's lacrosse team had its home-opener spoiled with a 14-2 loss to Ohio Northern University today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
The Polar Bears scored the first two goals of the game before sophomore Mary Dalrymple put the Comets on the scoreboard for the first time with an unassisted tally at the 22:20 mark of the opening half. Ohio Northern netted two more goals to go up 4-1. Dalrymple made the score 4-2 on another unassisted goal with 7:59 left in the first half. The Polar Bears scored the final four goals of the first period and then outscored Olivet, 6-0, in the second half for the 14-2 win.
For the game, the Comets recorded eight total shots, including two each for Dalrymple and sophomore Krystin Verran. Four players – seniors Cecilia Bayne and Jessica Doster, junior Xavier Vance and freshman Marissa Gordon – collected three ground balls a piece. Vance played all 60 minutes in the cage and had 12 saves.
Olivet is now off until next Wednesday, April 6, when it makes the short trip to play Albion College for its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener. Opening draw is set for 7 p.m.
