Women’s lacrosse team falls to Hiram 19-5 in season-opener
The Olivet College women’s lacrosse team fell to Hiram (Ohio) College, 19-5, today in its season-opener at the Charles A. Henry Field in Hiram, Ohio.
HIRAM, Ohio – The Olivet College women's lacrosse team fell to Hiram (Ohio) College, 19-5, today in its season-opener at the Charles A. Henry Field in Hiram, Ohio.
The Terriers scored the first two goals in a 50-second span at the start of the game. Sophomore Mary Dalrymple netted the Comets' first goal with 23:16 left in the first half. Hiram answered with two straight goals to go up 4-1. Sophomore Krystin Verran scored a free-position goal to make the score 4-2 around the midway point of the half.
After the Terriers took a 7-2 lead with three consecutive goals, Dalrymple scored her second goal of the game at the 9:28 mark of the opening half. Hiram put the final six goals on the scoreboard in the first half to take a 13-3 lead at the break.
To start the second half, Verran scored off a pass from senior Jessica Doster to cut the Comets' down to single digits, 13-4. Hiram responded with a 6-0 run to gain a 19-4 lead. Senior Cecilia Bayne scored the final goal of the game.
For the game, Dalrymple and Verran each had two goals. Verran topped the team with seven shots, while Dalrymple had four shots. Junior Xavier Vance played all 60 minutes in goal and collected 19 saves, while facing 42 Hiram shots.
Olivet will travel to Lisle, Ill., to play Benedictine (Ill.) University Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. EST.
