Women's lacrosse: Guarnaccia, Inman and Merrell earn All-MIAA honors
Three Olivet College women’s lacrosse players -- seniors Taylor Guarnaccia, Mackenzie Inman and Geri Merrell -- have earned 2015 All-MIAA honors.
FREELAND, Mich. – Three Olivet College women's lacrosse players -- seniors Taylor Guarnaccia, Mackenzie Inman and Geri Merrell -- have earned 2015 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) honors. Guarnaccia and Inman are first-team selections, and Merrell is a second-team pick. All-conference honors are based on a player's performance during the eight-game league schedule.
Under the leadership of third-year Head Coach Mary Ann Meltzer, Olivet finished the season with a 9-7 overall record, including five victories against league opponents, and advanced to the MIAA Tournament semifinals for the first time in school history. In addition to the nine wins being a school record, the Comets also shattered the single-season benchmarks for points (218), goals (182), assists (36), shots (438), shots-on-goal (336), draw controls (229) and free-position goals (56).
Guarnaccia ranked among the league leaders in goals (sixth, 27), points (eighth, 32), game-winning goals (tied for first, three), shots attempted (fourth, 64) and draw controls (second, 54). For Olivet's entire schedule, she tied for second on the team in scoring with 59 points (48 goals and 11 assists) but was first with a single-season school record 119 shots and 97 draw controls.
A 2014 second-team All-conference choice, Inman was also among the top players in the MIAA in goals (fifth, 28), points (seventh, 35), game-winning goals (tied for third, two), shots attempted (fifth, 60) and free-position goals (tied for third, nine). For the entire schedule, she tied for second on the team in scoring (59 points), while breaking the single-season school record with 12 assists, 53 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers.
In MIAA play, Merrell tied for fourth with seven assists to go along with 21 goals for 28 points. A 2013 second-team All-MIAA pick, she set new single-season school records for points (60) and goals (50).
These three players completed amazing careers in a Comet uniform. They finish 1-2-3 in virtually every all-time statistical category. Merrell graduates as the all-time leader in points (174), goals (155) and assists (19), followed by Guarnaccia (145 points, 27 goals, 18 assists) and Inman (111 points, 95 goals, 16 assists). Guarnaccia tops the record book in all-time draw controls (169), followed by Merrell (143) and Inman (96).
