Women’s lacrosse: Inman’s seven goals help Comets beat Adrian, 16-9

ADRIAN, Mich. – Senior Mackenzie Inman scored a game-high seven goals to help the Olivet College women's lacrosse team beat Adrian College, 16-9, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest today at Docking Stadium in Adrian. The seven goals ties for the third-most in a game in school history.
The Bulldogs scored the first goal of the game before seniors Geri Merrell and Taylor Guarnaccia gave Olivet a 2-1 lead on back-to-back unassisted goals. Adrian quickly tied the game nine seconds later. From there, the Comets controlled the game by scoring four of the next five goals to go up 6-3. Scoring the goals were senior Brittany Hayes with one off a pass from Guarnaccia, Guarnaccia one by herself and Inman with two. After the Bulldogs netted a goal at the 7:10 mark of the opening half, Olivet scored twice to double them up at the intermission, 8-4.
The Comets scored three of the first four goals of the second half to take an 11-5 lead. The teams traded the next eight goals of the contest to keep the six-goal cushion, 15-9. Inman scored the final goal of the game with 1:22 remaining to create the winning seven-goal differential.
For the game, Inman took a team-leading 12 shots to score her seven goals. Guarnaccia finished with six points on five goals and one assist. Hayes and Merrell had two goals apiece. Guarnaccia and Merrell collected five draw controls each, while Guarnaccia scooped-up a game-high six ground balls. Sophomore Xavier Vance earned her seventh win of the season in goal by making five saves on 16 shots in 60 minutes of action.
The Comets host Kalamazoo College Saturday night at 7 p.m.
