Women’s lacrosse: Inman and Merrell lead Comets over Belles, 12-9

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Seniors Mackenzie Inman and Geri Merrell each scored five points to lead the Olivet College women's lacrosse team to a 12-9 over Saint Mary's (Ind.) College today in Notre Dame, Indiana.
Senior Taylor Guarnaccia put the Comets ahead with a goal off a pass from Inman only two minutes and 10 seconds into the game. After the Belles tied the game, Guarnaccia netted a goal to give the lead back to Olivet. The Comets did not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game by virtue of scoring four of the last five goals of the first half and the same to start the second half for a seven-goal cushion at 10-3. Saint Mary's kept the game close by scoring six if the final eight goals of the game.
The Comets finished the game with a slim 23-19 advantage in shots. The Belles scooped up 30 grounds to 27 for Olivet. Merrell had five goals for her five points, while Inman collected three goals and two assists for her five points. Guarnaccia netted two goals, while senior Brittany Hayes and freshman Stephanie Robinson each scored one goal. The goal by Robinson was the first of her career.
Guarnaccia and Merrell won five draw controls apiece. Sophomore Xavier Vance played all 60 minutes in net and had four saves.
The Comets host the Alma College Scots Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
