Women’s golf team tied for eighth after round one of Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling
The Olivet College women’s golf team is tied for eighth-place after round one of the 2016 Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling, hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University and played at the Ironwood Golf Club in Normal, Illinois.
NORMAL, Ill. – The Olivet College women's golf team is tied for eighth-place after round one of the 2016 Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling, hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University and played at the Ironwood Golf Club in Normal, Illinois.
The Comets carded a 319 team score to tie Huntingdon (Ala.) College. The host Titans lead the 20-team field with a 302. Indiana Tech is second with a 307, followed by DePauw (Ind.) University, 312; Washington University-St. Louis (Mo.), 313; Centre (Ky.) College, 314; Wittenberg (Ohio) University, 315; and Grinnell (Iowa) College.
Senior Casey Lamp had Olivet's top round with a six-over par 78, shooting a 39 on the front and back nines. Overall, she recorded two birdies, nine pars, six bogeys and one double bogey. The performance sits Lamp in a tie for 20th-place out of 107 golfers in the player standings.
Freshman Hayley Cooper had a career-best, 18-hole score with a 79 to share 24th-place in the player standings. She had a 40 on the front nine and a 39 back nine. Overall round, Cooper's round was very similar to Lamp, as she had one less par and one more bogey.
Junior Laura Bacso posted a 40 on the front and back nines for an 80. She also recorded two birdies to go along with seven pars, eight bogeys and one double bogey. Senior Brooke Kastamo was next with an 82. Senior Kirstin Langer completed her round in 85 strokes.
The second and final round of the tournament gets under way tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. CST.
