FOREST PARK, Mo. – The Olivet College women's golf team is in eighth-place of 12 schools after the first round of the 2016 Washington (Mo.) University Spring Invitational at the Norman K. Probstein Community Golf Courses in Forest Park, Missouri.
On a very windy day, the Comets returned to the club house with a 354 team score, which is just two strokes behind seventh-place Saint Mary's (Ind.) College and three strokes behind the host Bears. Rhodes (Tenn.) College leads the field with a 317, followed by Carleton (Minn.) College, 333; St. Catherine (Minn.) University, 334; Sewanee (Tenn.) University, 336; and Carthage (Wis.) College, 349.
Junior Laura Bacso led Olivet with an 84 on the par 70, 5,800-yard course to sit in a tie for 15th-place in the player standings. She was +6 on the front nine with a 41, and +8 on the back nine with a 43. Seniors Casey Lamp and Kirstin Langer both shot an 89. Senior Brooke Kastamo finished her round in 92 total strokes. Freshman Hayley Cooper recorded a 97.
Tomorrow's second round gets under way with a 9 a.m. CT shotgun start. The Comets will be paired with golfers from Saint Mary's and Rend Lake (Ill.) Community College.
