Women’s golf team places fifth at George Fox Westbrook Invitational
The Olivet College women’s golf team placed fifth of eight schools at the 2016 George Fox Westbrook Invitational, played at the Westbrook Village Golf Club and Lakes Course in Peoria, Arizona.
Lamp ties 36-hole school record with a 149
PEORIA, Ariz. – The Olivet College women's golf team placed fifth of eight schools at the 2016 George Fox Westbrook Invitational, played at the Westbrook Village Golf Club and Lakes Course in Peoria, Arizona.
After carding a 316 in Saturday's first round, the Comets recorded a 321, team score in today's second round to post a two-round total of 637 strokes. The 637 is the third-best 36-hole team score in school history.
Senior Casey Lamp tied the individual 36-hole school record with a two-day total of 149 strokes and earn a spot on the all-tournament team after tying for sixth-place in the player standings. Through 17 holes in today's round, she was at two-over par before a triple bogey on the final hole gave her a 76.
Senior Brooke Kastamo finished with a two-day total of 160 strokes after having an 82 in today's second round. A birdie on the last hole helped senior Kirstin Langer post a one-shot improvement on Saturday's first-round score. In today's round, she carded an 81 for a two-round total of 163 strokes.
Junior Laura Bacso shot an 82 in today's round. To go with her 83 in yesterday's round, she had a two-day total of 165 strokes. Freshman Hayley Cooper completed today's second round in 91 strokes for a two-round total of 181.
Competing as an individual scorer, freshman Rachel Stoneburner improved by seven strokes today with a 91 to give her a two-day total of 189 strokes.
The host Bruins edged University of Texas at Tyler by one stroke, 596-597, to win the team title. University of Redlands (Calif.) was third with a 603, followed by Trinity (Texas) University, 615. Olivet finished ahead of Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) College, 645; Schreiner (Texas) University, 657; and Saint Mary's (Ind.) College, 660. Sydney Maluenda from George Fox and Amberlynn Dorsey from Redlands shared medalist honors with 142s.
The Comets are now off until Saturday and Sunday, April 2-3, when they participate in the Washington University Spring Invitational at the Norman K. Probstein Community Golf Courses in St. Louis, Missouri. Saturday's round starts at 11 a.m. CST, and Sunday's action starts at 9 a.m. CST.
