Women’s golf team stands third at MIAA season-finale tournament
The Olivet College women’s golf team stands in third-place after the first round of the MIAA season-finale tournament, held today at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek.
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Olivet College women's golf team stands in third-place after the first round of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) season-finale tournament, held today at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek. Tomorrow's second round gets under way at 10 a.m.
The Comets finished the day with a 328 team score. Hope and Saint Mary's (Ind.) share the top spot on the leaderboard with 325s. Trine (Ind.) University sits fourth at 330, while Albion College is a distant fifth at 355. Calvin and Alma are tied for sixth with 355s. Adrian College is eighth at 371.
For Olivet, junior Laura Bacso is tied for second in the player standings with a 79. She had a 40 on the front nine and 39 on the back nine, shooting an even par on the par 3s, +4 on the par 4s and +3 on the par 5s. Seniors Brooke Kastamo and Casey Lamp both carded an 80. Kastamo had a 36 on the front nine and 44 on the back nine, while Lamp had a 39 on the front nine and a 41 on the back nine.
Freshman Hayley Cooper completed her round in 89 total strokes. She had a 45 on the front nine and was consistent on the back nine, with a 5 on 8-of-9 holes and a four on the other hole. Senior Kirstin Langer was a stroke behind with a 90 (42-48).
Freshman Rachel Stoneburner was the top individual scorer with an 88.
With just tomorrow's round left in the season, Olivet sits four strokes ahead of Saint Mary's in the overall team standings, 1667-1671. Hope has the lead with 1643 strokes. Trine is fourth at 1692. The remaining four teams are more than 100 strokes behind the Comets.
