Women’s golfers finish in third-place at MIAA Jamboree #4
The Olivet College women’s golf team finished in third-place at the fourth MIAA jamboree today at the Zollner Golf Course in Angola, Indiana.
ANGOLA, Ind. – The Olivet College women's golf team finished in third-place at the fourth Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) jamboree today at the Zollner Golf Course in Angola, Indiana.
Playing through wind and rain, the Comets posted a 340 team score. The host Thunder were first with a 337, followed by Saint Mary's (Ind.) College at 338. Hope College was fourth at 345, followed by Albion College in fifth, 354; Calvin College in sixth, 365; Alma College in seventh, 370; and Adrian College, 382.
Senior Brooke Kastamo tied for second in the player standings with an 80. Freshman Hayley Cooper equaled her career-best round with an 84. Junior Laura Bacso was a stroke behind with an 85. Seniors Casey Lamp and Kirstin Langer completed their round with a 91 and 92, respectively.
The final two rounds of their MIAA schedule will take place next Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9-10, at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek. Both rounds will have a shotgun start – 1 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Entering the final two rounds, the Comets trail Hope by 21 strokes for the overall lead, 1318-1339. Olivet is only seven strokes ahead of Saint Mary's who has a 1346. Trine is fourth at 1362. The top four teams will play in a three-round MIAA play next spring to determine the league's automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA Division III National Championships.
