Kastamo earns medalist honors, Comets place second at MIAA Jamboree #3
Senior Brooke Kastamo earned medalist honors to lead the Olivet College women’s golf team to a second-place at the MIAA Jamboree #3.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Senior Brooke Kastamo earned medalist honors to lead the Olivet College women's golf team to a second-place at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree #3, hosted by Calvin College and played at The Golf Club at Thornapple Pointe in Grand Rapids.
The Comets posted a 336 team score. Saint Mary's (Ind.) College took first-place with a 333. Hope College was third at 340, followed by Trine (Ind.) University, 351; Calvin, 360; Albion College, 369; Alma College, 388; and Adrian College, 390.
Kastamo carded a six-over par 78, which matches the MIAAA course record for Thornapple Pointe. Four others have had a 78 at the course. Junior Laura Bacso finished fifth in the player standings with an 83. Freshman Hayley Cooper tied for eighth-place with an 85. Senior Casey Lamp completed Olivet's team score with a 90. Senior Kirstin Langer completed her round in 106 strokes.
By virtue of finishing ahead of Hope, the Comets cut into the Flying Dutch's lead in the overall league standings. With three rounds left, Olivet now trails Hope by 26 strokes, 973-999. Saint Mary's is right behind the Comets at 1,008. Trine is a distant fourth at 1,025 strokes.
Trine hosts the fourth MIAA Jamboree Saturday at the Zollner Golf Course in Angola, Indiana.
