Women’s golf: Olivet finishes in eighth-place at IWU Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling
The Olivet College women’s golf team finished in eighth-place at the 2015 Illinois Wesleyan University/Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling, which was played on the par 72, 5,835-yard Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Illinois.

After posting a 311 in Saturday's round, the Comets had a 331 in today's second round for a two-round total of 642 strokes. Washington University-St. Louis topped the 19-team field with a 605 (301-304). Rhodes (Tenn.) was second at 612 (303-309), followed by IWU, 624 (312-312); Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.), 627 (313-314); Wis.-Stout, 628 (317-311); DePauw (Ind.), 639 (319-320); and St. Thomas (Minn.), 640 (317-323) to round out the top seven.
Sophomore Laura Bacso led Olivet in today's round with a 78. Her round featured 14 pars, two bogeys and two double bogeys. The 78 also helped Basco card a team-low, two-round score of 158 strokes, which tied her for 20th-place in the player standings.
Junior Brooke Kastamo completed today's round in 81 strokes, with 10 pars, seven bogeys and one double bogey. She finished with a two-day total of 160 strokes. Sophomore Allyson Schultz finished the second in 83 strokes, including 10 pars. She had a two-round total of 161 strokes.
Junior Casey Lamp was next with an 89 to give her a two-day total of 163 strokes. Junior Kirstin Langer carded a 91 for a two-round total of 181 strokes.
The Comets now turn their attention to the three-round Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Spring Qualifier. Olivet hosts the first round Tuesday afternoon at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall. The school with the lowest cumulative total after the three rounds will receive the league's automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA DIII National Championships.
