NORMAL, Ill. – The Olivet College women's golf team sits in third-place after the first day of the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling, hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University and played at the Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Illinois.
The Comets shot a season-best 311 team score and is one stroke ahead of the host Titans. Washington University-St. Louis leads the 19-team field with a 301. Rhodes (Tenn.) College is second at 303.
Junior Casey Lamp is tied for fourth-place in the player standings with a two-over par 74, which ties for the eighth-best 18-hole score in school history. Her rounded featured one birdie on the par 4, 381-yard No. 10, 14 pars and three bogeys. Lamp's 14 pars tied for the most among the 102 golfers in the tournament.
Sophomore Allyson Schultz carded a career-best 78. She had a birdie on the par 4, 308-yard No. 1 to go along with 11 pars, five bogeys and one double bogey. Junior Brooke Kastamo completed her round in 79 strokes, with 11 pars and seven bogeys.
Sophomore Laura Bacso was one stroke behind with an 80, including birdies on the par 5, 446-yard No. 17 and then on the par 4, 313-yard No. 18. Junior Kirstin Langer finished with a 90.
The second round begins tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. CST.
