Women’s golf: Comets in 12th-place at WashU Spring Invitational
The Olivet College women’s golf team is in 12th-place after the first round of the Fourth Annual Washington University-St. Louis Spring Invitational at the Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Illinois.
MADISON, Ill. – The Olivet College women's golf team is in 12th-place after the first round of the Fourth Annual Washington University-St. Louis Spring Invitational at the Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Illinois.
The Comets carded a 346 team score, and are only two strokes behind 11th-place Cal Lutheran University and eight strokes behind conference rival Trine (Ind.) University. William Woods (Mo.) University, an NAIA institution, tops the 15-team field with a 297. The host Bears are second at 307.
Junior Brooke Kastamo posted Olivet's best individual score with an 82. Starting on hole No. 10, she was only two over par on the back nine with a pair of bogeys. Kastamo shot an eight-over par on the front nine, with three pars, four bogeys and two double bogeys.
Junior Casey Lamp finished with an 87. She had the Comets' only birdie in the first round, with a four on the par 5, 494-yard No. 18. Junior Kirstin Langer had a 44 on the front and back nines for an 88. Sophomores Laura Bacso and Allyson Schultz both shot an 89.
Tomorrow's second round begins with a 9 a.m. CT shotgun start. Olivet will be paired with golfers from Cal Lutheran and Trine. Kastamo will start her round on No. 10, Lamp and Langer on No. 11, and Bacso and Schultz on No. 12.
