Women’s golf: Olivet ties for eighth-place at Jekyll Island Classic
The Olivet College women’s golf team opened its spring schedule by tying for eighth-place at the 2015 Jekyll Island Collegiate Classic, held on the par 72 and 5,801-yard Indian Mound Golf Course in Jekyll Island, Georgia.
JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The Olivet College women's golf team opened its spring schedule by tying for eighth-place at the 2015 Jekyll Island Collegiate Classic, held on the par 72 and 5,801-yard Indian Mound Golf Course in Jekyll Island, Georgia.
The Comets saved their best team score for today's final round, as they had a 323 to tie Centre (Ky.) College for eighth with three-round totals of 988 strokes. Defending NCAA champion Rhodes (Tenn.) College won the team championship with a 943. Claremont Mudd Scripps (Calif.) and New York University shared second-place with 958s. Illinois Wesleyan was third at 969, followed by Methodist (N.C.), 972; Huntingdon (Ala.), 973; and Bridgewater (Va.), 979.
Junior Brooke Kastamo completed her third round in 79 strokes to give her a three-day total of 235 strokes. With the score, she tied for sixth-place in the player standings with two other golfers.
In today's round, Kastamo had a double bogey on the last hole of the back nine for a +3 score after nine holes. On the front nine, she had five pars and four bogeys.
Sophomore Laura Bacso shot a career-best 77 in the third round for a three-day total of 246 strokes. Through 13 holes in today's round, she was only one over par after recording birdies on No. 14, No. 2 and No. 4. Bacso made bogeys on four of her final five holes to finish below 80 strokes for the first time in her career.
Junior Casey Lamp completed her third round in 81 strokes, which was her best score of the tournament, to post a three-round total of 252 strokes. In today's round, she was three-over par, with a birdie on No. 15, on the back nine before carding a six-over on the front nine.
Sophomore Allyson Schultz carded an 85 in today's round for a three-day total of 255 strokes. Today, she was +7 on the back nine and +6 on the front nine, with only one birdie on No. 11.
Junior Kirstin Langer had her best round of the tournament with an 88 and finished with a three-round total of 268 strokes. In today's round, she had three pars and six bogeys on the back nine before shooting two pars, four bogeys and three double bogeys on the front nine.
The Comets are now off until Saturday and Sunday, March 28-28, when they participate in the Washington University-St. Louis Spring Invitational at the Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Illinois.
