Women’s golf: Comets slip to ninth-place at Jekyll Island Classic
The Olivet College women’s golf team has slipped into ninth-place at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Classic at the Indian Mound Golf Course in Jekyll Island, Georgia.
JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The Olivet College women's golf team has slipped into ninth-place at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Classic at the Indian Mound Golf Course in Jekyll Island, Georgia.
The Comets have a two-round total of 666 strokes after shooting a 334 in today's round. Defending NCAA champion Rhodes (Tenn.) College tops the 19-team field with a 637. New York University is second at 645, followed by Claremont Mudd Scripps (Calif.), 648; Methodist (N.C.), 655; Illinois Wesleyan, 655; Huntington (Ala.), 657; Bridgewater (Va.), 659; and Centre (Ky.), 665.
Junior Brooke Kastamo improved by two strokes from her first round score with a 77 today, which gives her a two-day total of 156 strokes. She is tied for fourth-place with Christina Herbert from Bridgewater in the player standings. Sydney Weaver from Berry (Ga.) leads the 116-player field with a 154.
Starting today's round on the back nine, Kastamo had three straight bogeys before having a par on No. 13. After another bogey on No. 14, she was even par on the final four holes of the back nine, with birdies on No. 15 and No. 17. She was only one over on the front nine, with a birdie on No. 4, six pars and two bogeys.
Sophomore Allyson Schultz carded a career-best 84 in today's round for Olivet's second-best score. The round featured seven pars, 10 bogeys and one double bogey. She now has a two-round total of 170 strokes.
Sophomore Laura Bacso needed 86 strokes to complete her second round. She shot an eight-over 44 on the back before improving by two strokes on the front nine with a 42. Bacso has a two-day total of 169 strokes.
Junior Casey Lamp was one stroke with an 87. She was five-over on the back nine until going +10 on the front nine. Lamp's two-round score is 171 strokes.
Junior Kirstin Langer completed today's second round in 89 strokes for a two-round total of 180 strokes. In today's round, she was over five-over on the back nine before shooting +12 on the front nine.
Tee times for tomorrow's final round will start at 8 a.m.
