Women’s golf: Olivet sits in second-place after first day of MIAA season-finale tournament

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Olivet College women's golf team sits in second-place after the first round of the 2014 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Season-Finale Tournament at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek.
The Comets posted a 329 team score, which is 11 behind first-place Hope College. Saint Mary's (Ind.) College and Trine (Ind.) University are tied for third with 349s, followed by Calvin College, 361; Adrian College, 371; Albion College, 385; Alma College, 388; and Kalamazoo College, 429.
Junior Casey Lamp is tied for first in the player standings with a 77. Junior Brooke Kastamo shot an 81, while sophomore Laura Bacso had an 85. Freshman Kyla Kurczewski was a stroke behind with an 86. Sophomore Allyson Schultz finished her round in 96 strokes. Junior Kirstin Langer was an individual scorer and had an 89.
Entering tomorrow's final round, the Comets are in second-place in the overall standings. Hope has a firm grip on the lead by 59 strokes over Olivet, 1625-1684. Olivet is 27 strokes ahead of third-place Saint Mary's and Trine is fourth at 1740. The top four teams will advance to the three-round spring qualifying tournament, where the school with the lowest cumulative total will receive the league's automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA DIII National Championships.
