Women’s golf: Kastamo earns medalist honors, Comets finish second at jamboree
Junior Brooke Kastamo earned medalist honors, and the Olivet College women’s golf team finished in second-place at the MIAA Jamboree #4 today at the Lenawee Country Club in Adrian.
ADRIAN, Mich. – Junior Brooke Kastamo earned medalist honors, and the Olivet College women's golf team finished in second-place at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree #4 today at the Lenawee Country Club in Adrian. With the performance, the Comets also maintain second-place in the overall league standings entering the final weekend of play.
Olivet finished with a 342 team score, which was only two strokes behind champion Hope College. Saint Mary's (Ind.) College was third at 349, followed by Adrian College, 359; Trine (Ind.) University, 364; Calvin College, 371; Albion College, 387; Alma College, 389; and Kalamazoo College, 428.
Kastamo completed her round in 80 strokes, one stroke less than Janice Heffernan from Saint Mary's. Junior Casey Lamp and Hope's Morgan Leep shared third-place in the player standings with 82s. Sophomore Laura Bacso carded an 88. Freshman Kyla Kurczewski had a 92, while junior Kirstin Langer posted a 98. Sophomore Allyson Schultz played as an individual and shot an 88.
Hope holds a 48-stroke over Olivet in the overall standings, 1307-1355. Saint Mary's is nine strokes back at 1,364 and Trine is fourth at 1,391.
The final two rounds of the fall season will be played next Friday and Saturday, Oct. 10-11 at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek.
