Women’s golf: Olivet finishes second at first league jamboree
The Olivet College women’s golf team began defense of its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) championship by placing second at the first league jamboree, held today at the Blackthorn Golf Course in South Bend, Ind.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Olivet College women's golf team began defense of its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) championship by placing second at the first league jamboree, held today at the Blackthorn Golf Course in South Bend, Ind.
The Comets returned to the club house with a 335 team score, which was only five strokes behind Hope College. Trine (Ind.) University was third at 337, followed by Saint Mary's, 338; Calvin, 357; Adrian, 382; Albion, 388; Alma, 409; and Kalamazoo, 412.
Olivet's four-scoring golfers all finished in the top 12 of the player standings. Junior Brooke Kastamo shared third-place in the player standings with an 80. Junior Kirstin Langer tied for seventh-place with an 84. Freshman Kyla Kurczewski was part of a tie for 10th with an 85. Junior Casey Lamp shared 12th-place with an 86. Sophomore Laura Bacso carded an 88.
The second of four league jamborees is Saturday at the Pine River Country Club in Alma. The MIAA champion is the school with the lowest cumulative total after the four league jamborees and the two-day season finale tournament Oct. 10-11.
