Women’s golf: Olivet ties for 13th at Small College Classic
The Olivet College women’s golf team tied for 13th-place of 16 teams at the 2014 DePauw (Ind.) University Small College Classic, which was played at the Deer Creek Golf Course in Clayton, Ind.
CLAYTON, Ind. – The Olivet College women's golf team tied for 13th-place of 16 teams at the 2014 DePauw (Ind.) University Small College Classic, which was played at the Deer Creek Golf Course in Clayton, Ind.
The Comets posted a two-round total of 721 strokes (356-365) to tie Saint Mary's (Ind.) College. Washington University-St. Louis (Mo.) won the team title with a 641 (323-318). Carthage (Wis.) College was second at 645 (326-319), followed by Wittenberg (Ohio) University, 647 (323-324) and the host Tigers, 659 (328-331).
Junior Brooke Kastamo shared 29th-place in the player standings with a 169 (85-84) for Olivet's best finisher. Juniors Casey Lamp and Kirstin Langer both finished with a 185. Lamp had an 89 in the first round and followed that with a 96 in today's second round. Langer did the reverse, with a 96 in the first round and an 89 in the second round.
Sophomore Laura Bacso was two strokes behind with a 187 (91-96). Freshman Kyla Kurczewski completed her two rounds in 189 total strokes (91-98).
The Comets now begin defense of their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship Wednesday when they travel to South Bend, Ind., for the first league jamboree at Blackthorn Golf Course. Olivet is seeking its fourth straight MIAA championship.
