Women’s golf: Comets place second at Labor Day Tee-Off Tournament

MARSHALL, Mich. – The Olivet College women's golf team dropped eight strokes off its first round team score, but still placed second at the 2014 Labor Day Tee-Off Tournament at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall.
The Comets carded a 330 in today's round to give them a 668 two-round total. Washington University-St. Louis (Mo.) captured the team championship with a 625 (310-315). Washington's Olivia Lugar was the medalist with a 152 (77-75). Olivet finished strokes ahead of third-place Saint Mary's (Ind.) College, who had a 694 (350-344). Franklin (Ind.) College was fourth at 732 (367-365), followed by Adrian College in fifth-place, 747 (365-382), and Manchester (Ind.) University in sixth-place, 871 (443-428).
Junior Brooke Kastamo was part of a tie for eighth-place on the player leaderboard with a two-day total of 164 (79-85) strokes. Junior Casey Lamp was one stroke behind with a 165 (83-82). Sophomore Laura Bacso completed her two rounds in 169 (86-83) strokes.
Junior Kirstin Langer posted the Comets' best score in the second round with an 80, which was 15 strokes better than her first round score, to give her 175. In her first collegiate tournament, freshman Kyla Kurczewski had a 176 (90-86).
Sophomore Allyson Schultz carded back-to-back 89s for a 178, as an individual scorer for Olivet.
The Comets return to competitive action Friday and Saturday, Sept. 5-6, when they host the Olivet Fall Invitational at The Medalist. Both days have a shotgun start at 2 p.m. on Friday and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
