Women’s Basketball: Olivet wins 62-44 at Adrian

ADRIAN, Mich. – The University of Olivet women's basketball team beat Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Adrian College, 62-44, tonight at the Merillat Sport & Fitness Center.

- The first quarter was back-and-forth, with five ties and five lead changes. The last tie was 13-13 at the end of the period. The Bulldogs made the first basket of the second quarter. Freshman Kaylee Bush put Olivet ahead, 16-15, with a three-pointer. The Comets kept the advantage until Adrian came back to level the score at 25-25. Olivet took the lead on a layup by freshman Christina Malackanich. The Bulldogs used an old-fashioned three-point play in the final minute of the quarter to take a 28-27 lead at halftime.
- The Comets scored the first three points of the third quarter before a Bulldog three-pointer evened the score. Olivet responded with 11 consecutive points over a five-minute span to go up 42-31 at the 2:16 mark. A fastbreak layup by senior Madison Bailey pushed the Comet lead to 12 points, 46-34. Adrian made one free throw right before the end of the quarter to trail, 46-35, to start the fourth quarter. Olivet outscored the Bulldogs, 16-9, in the final quarter to pull away in the 62-44 win.
- Twelve Olivet players scored at least two points.
- Junior Clara Shoales tallied a team-best 12 points.
- Malackanich was next with nine, followed by Bailey with eight.
- Freshman Drue Allen added a season-high seven points.
- Senior Lily Connelly had six points, a team-best eight rebounds, three assists and three steals.
- The last time the Comets had eight wins in a season was the 2018-19 season. The five MIAA wins are the most since 2015-16 when Olivet had nine.
- With the win, the Comets sweep the season series against the Bulldogs for the first time since 2016.
- Olivet hosts Albion College Saturday at 1 p.m.
