Women’s Basketball: Olivet denied by Calvin, 72-50

OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet women's basketball team was on the losing end of a 72-50 final to Calvin University this afternoon at the Cutler Event Center.

- Records: Olivet 6-10 overall, 3-4 MIAA; Calvin 12-5 overall, 6-2 MIAA
- The first six minutes of the game featured six lead changes and three tied scores. After a 10-10 deadlock, the Knights ended the quarter on a 12-2 run to take a 22-10 lead at the start of the second quarter.
- The Comets scored 12 of the first 14 points of the second period to trail by only two points, 22-22, at the 5:37 mark. Calvin pushed its lead to five points, 30-25, at halftime.
- The Knights went ahead by 10 points early in the third quarter. Olivet countered with an 8-2 run to trail by four points, 38-34, with 5:50 remaining. Calvin extended its lead to 14 points, 50-36, at the end of the third stanza. The Knights out-scored the Comets, 22-14, in the fourth quarter for their 22-point margin of victory.
- Senior Lily Connelly paced Olivet with nine points. She also had seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.
- Freshman Ellie Baynes came off the bench to score eight points.
- Senior Julia Decker contributed seven points and a team-leading nine rebounds.
- Freshman Savannah Brewer also tallied seven points.
- The Comets host Trine (Ind.) University next Wednesday, January 17, at 7:30 p.m.
