Women’s Basketball: Olivet drains 15 triples in 77-46 win at Mount Mary

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The University of Olivet women's basketball team made 15 three-pointers to defeat Mount Mary (Wis.) University, 77-46, tonight inside the Bloechl Center. The Comets have now won three straight games.

- In the first quarter, the Comets took a five-point lead, 10-5, at the 5:45 mark. The Blue Angels scored the next seven points to go up 12-10. After Olivet tied the game, Mount Mary scored a basket to go up 14-12. Back-to-back three-pointers by senior Madison Bailey handed the lead back to the Comets, 18-14, at the end of the first stanza.
- Olivet outscored the Blue Angels 16-8 in the second period to take a 34-20 lead at halftime. The Comets stretched their advantage to as many as 27 points twice in the third quarter. After the second time at 51-24, Mount Mary used a 10-3 run to close the gap to 20 points. Sophomore Kinsley Hatfield made back-to-back layups to make the 58-34 to start the fourth quarter.
- Freshman Kaylee Bush canned two straight triples to open the fourth period to make it a 30-point game, 64-34. The closest the Blue Angels would get in the fourth quarter was 25 points.
- For the game, Olivet posted a 45.5 field goal percentage (30-of-66), including 37.5 percent (15-of-40) from behind the arc. Mount Mary shot 27.3 percent (15-of-55), including 20.8 percent (5-of-24) from three-point range. The Comets outrebounded the Blue Angels, 53-26, and tallied 22 assists to nine for Mount Mary.
- Bailey scored a team-leading 14 points, with four three-pointers.
- Freshman Madalynn Terry also had 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting from behind the arc.
- Hatfield and freshman Anna Honnen each had eight points.
- All 15 players who dressed for the game grabbed at least one rebound. Freshman Ella Baynes led all players with eight rebounds.
- Freshman Savannah Brewer filled the stat sheet with seven points, five rebounds, five assists and six steals.
- Olivet's 15 three-pointers are the second most for a game in school history. The record is 17 on December 9, 2017, against Grace Christian College. The 40 three-point attempts are third most for a game.
- The last time the Comets had a three-game win streak was the 2015-16 season.
- Olivet's five wins this season are one shy of the total games won during the 2022-23 season.
- Olivet takes some time off for Christmas and returns to action Friday and Saturday, December 29-30, at the Otterbein (Ohio) University Smokey Ballenger Classic. The Comets face the host Cardinals in their first game on Friday at 1 p.m. The other first round game features Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College against Denison (Ohio) University. On Saturday, the losers play each other in the consolation game, starting at 12 p.m., and the winners square off in the championship game, beginning at 4 p.m.
