Women’s Basketball: Olivet defeated by Hope, 81-43

HOLLAND, Mich. – The University of Olivet women's basketball team was defeated by defending Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) co-champion Hope College, 81-43, today at the DeVos Fieldhouse.

- The Comets kept the game close in the first quarter, as the Flying Dutch's largest lead of the quarter was five points, 19-14, at the 1:49 mark. Hope split two free throws in the final seconds of the period to take a six-point lead, 20-14, at the start of the second quarter.
- In the opening 10 minutes, the teams combined for eight made baskets, with seven coming from behind the three-point arc. The difference in the score was the Flying Dutch made 11-of-14 free throws and Olivet did not attempt a shot from the charity stripe.
- Hope outscored the Comets, 27-11, in the second quarter to gain a 47-25 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.
- The Flying Dutch controlled the second half, scoring 20 points in the third quarter and 12 in the fourth quarter compared to 11 in the third and seven in the fourth for the Comets.
- Freshman Savannah Brewer paced Olivet with nine points.
- Freshman Kaylee Bush and senior Lily Connelly each had seven points.
- Freshman Christina Malackanich grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.
- The Comets take next week off for fall semester final examinations and are back on the court Saturday, December 9, at Kalamazoo College. Tip-off is at 3 p.m. from the Anderson Athletic Center.
