Women’s Basketball: Olivet opens home schedule with 64-50 loss to Concordia-Chicago

OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet women's basketball team began its home schedule with a 64-50 setback to Concordia University-Chicago tonight at the Cutler Event Center.

- The Cougars led by seven points, 12-5, at the 4:26 mark of the first quarter. Olivet answered with four straight points on two free throws and a layup. Concordia scored the final four points of the quarter to take a 16-9 lead at the start of the second stanza.
- After the Cougars made the first basket of the second period, the Comets went on a 7-0 run to cut their deficit down to three points, 19-16. The Cougars ended the half on an 18-3 spurt to double up Olivet at the break, 38-19.
- Concordia extended its lead to as many as 24 points before settling for a 59-36 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Comets outscored Cougars 14-5 in the fourth quarter for the final 14-point margin of defeat.
- For the game, Olivet posted a 24.2 field goal percentage (16-of-66) compared to 36.4 percent (24-of-66) for Concordia. The Cougars also drained nine three-pointers to just two for the Comets. Olivet did make more free throws, 16-of-23 to 7-of-12.
- Senior Lily Connelly finished with a team-leading 13 points to go along with seven rebounds, three assists and four steals.
- Freshman Kaylee Bush and senior Julia Decker both posted a double-double. Bush had a team-leading 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Decker had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
- Sophomore Kinsley Hatfield also grabbed 10 rebounds.
- Junior Clara Shoales tallied seven points and three assists.
- Olivet participates in the Nicolet National Bank Tip-off Tournament, hosted by St. Norbert (Wis.) College. The Comets face University of Wis.-Oshkosh on Friday night, starting at 6 p.m. ET. On Saturday afternoon, Olivet plays the host Green Knights, beginning at 4 p.m. ET.
