Women’s basketball team begins home schedule with 76-69 loss to Lourdes
The Olivet College women’s basketball team rallied from a 16-point deficit in the second quarter to take a lead in the fourth quarter before falling to Lourdes (Ohio) University, 76-69, this afternoon in its home-opener at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women's basketball team rallied from a 16-point deficit in the second quarter to take a lead in the fourth quarter before falling to Lourdes (Ohio) University, 76-69, this afternoon in its home-opener at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Following a 2-2 tie, the Gray Wolves went on a 13-1 run to gain a 15-3 lead at the 2:58 mark of the opening quarter. Lourdes led by 13 points, 19-6, before settling for another 12-point lead, 21-9, after one quarter.
- The Gray Wolves then took their 16-point lead, 27-11, at the 8:36 mark of the second quarter. Olivet fought back and trailed by only seven points, 36-29. Lourdes scored the last basket of the period to take a 39-29 halftime lead.
- The Comets closed the gap to two points, 47-45, with 3:03 remaining in the third quarter. The Gray Wolves put five of the final seven points on the scoreboard in the third period for a 52-47 lead.
- Olivet opened the fourth quarter on a 9-4 run to level the score at 56-56. Lourdes responded with a 6-0 run to go back up 62-56. The Comets answered by scoring seven consecutive points to take their first lead in the game, 63-62, with 4:56 left in the game.
- Lourdes scored the next basket and never trailed, again. The Gray Wolves pushed their lead to 10 points, 76-66, before a three-pointer by junior Stephane Cochran created the final score.
FOR THE COMETS
- Olivet made 19 baskets, including seven three-pointers, and 24 free throws for its 69 points.
- Senior Katie McKinnon led all scorers with 26 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the floor and 9-of-12 shooting from the free throw line.
- Cochran added 15 points, with four baskets from long-range.
- Senior T'Keyia Collins grabbed a team-leading nine rebounds.
- Senior Jillian Nickels dished out a game-high six assists.
FOR THE GRAY WOLVES
- Kalena Harris scored a team-best 20 points.
- Daja Whiteside and Jesse Fidler each contributed a double-double. Whiteside had 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Fidler had 12 points and 11 rebounds.
