FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College senior forward Dallas Austin has been tabbed the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week for women's basketball.
"I'm so happy for Dallas to be named the MIAA Player of the Week for the first time in her career," said Olivet head coach Nicole Burford. "She has been a steady leader for us and has been one of our more consistent players this season. Dallas has given us several games this season where she filled up the stat line with a lot of positive things. She has also been our vocal leader and energy leader all season."
Austin finished with a team-high 17 points, seven rebounds and seven steals to go along with five assists in Olivet's 70-66 come-from-behind win over Alma College Jan. 13 at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. She then had 15 points and 10 rebounds in a 52-41 loss to Trine (Ind.) University Jan. 16 at Hershey Hall in Angola, Indiana. It was her first double-double of the season.
For the week, Austin made 13-of-24 baskets, including four from behind the three-point arc, and two free throws for her 32 points. Her seven steals against Alma were the most by an MIAA basketball player (men and women) this season and ties for the third-most in school history for a single-game.
Olivet is on the road for two games this week. The Comets wrap-up the first half of its conference schedule Wednesday night with a 6 p.m. game at Adrian College, and then start the second half Saturday afternoon with a 3 p.m. contest at Saint Mary's (Ind.) College.
